Fishing Seat Box Buyers Guide

Coarse fishing is one of the main participated sports in the United Kingdom, it has been for several years so ensuring you are comfy whilst sat at the riverside is imperative.  Having started using a wicker basket for my first fishing seat, I appreciate how much fishing boxes have advanced over the past 20 years.

Fishing seat boxes range from under £50 all the way to £1,000 and you'll be amazed how much money anglers spend on choosing the right seat box to plonk their backsides.  Fisherman who spend hours staring at bite alarms chasing carp using rods and reels will often often opt for a fishing chair - which is perfectly fine. Those of us that pole fish will more likely choose a fishing seat box to not only improve our posture whilst fishing - but to aid us when adding or removing sections.

Pole Fishing with a 10m pole whilst trying to slide it past the back of a chair not only is uncomfortable, but can cause serious back pain.

Why are some fishing boxes more expensive than others?

The more expensive range of fishing seat box systems come with better quality seat cushions, more available accessories and are usually made from much lighter & stronger materials making them easier to carry to and from your peg.

Whilst cheaper seat boxes are perfect for beginners, they are usually much heavier to carry and have very few available accessories to optimiser your pole fishing experience.

Should I buy new or used?

Using marketplaces to find second hand fishing match boxes

One of the great reasons why fishing is so popular is the upcycling of fishing equipment.  By searching eBay / Facebook Marketplace or even Craigslist you can grab yourself a real bargain.  Buying used not only saves the environment, but can save you serious £££.

When looking at used seat boxes, please take notice of:

  • Is the seat cushion in good condition
  • Are the carrying straps frayed / torn
  • Are the attachments in good working order
  • Does it come complete with all 4 legs & feet

Purchasing a used fishing seat could end up costing you much more as older box accessories are often no longer being sold.

With or without Accessories?

When deciding on your seat box, it's always worth listing out your basic requirements before clicking that "Buy Now" button.  If you're usual fishing peg is quite small, then you may want to choose a box with more attachable accessories.

If you're peg has ample room, you could save money buy choosing a more "basic" box and place your additional terminal tackle on the ground/peg surrounding your box.
