Daiwa 90 (D90) Seat Box Review
Daiwa (D90) Seat Box is a sturdy well built fishing seat box packed with incredible storage and 6 adjustable SYSTEM-36 telescopic legs - perfect for any Pole Angler.
Officially released in May 2021, the Daiwa 90 Seat box is very stylish piece of fishing tackle that any angler would love to have as their main battle station. Like 99% other fishing seat boxes the Daiwa 90 is predominantly black in colour with a small red trim just below the padded seat.
The Daiwa 90 Seat box is no lightweight fishing seat box weighing in at 16.7kg (36.8lb) and for those of us who eat Weetabix every morning can be carried with the detachable padded shoulder strap. If you don't fancy carrying the box over your shoulder, it might be worth investing in a tackle trolley especially if you're unable to park close to your peg.
The padded seat no only adds a high level of comfort, but also features a heavy duty pole seat recess which is perfect for pole anglers allowing them to easily rest the butt of their pole in - preventing lower back pain when fishing for long periods of time with a lengthy pole.
The D90 seat box comfortably rests on 6 black telescopic "SYSTEM 36" 36mm round diameter legs, each with the 180 degrees rotating locking handwheels to prevent awkward snags whilst you're pulling in that monster barbel. Each telescopic leg also comes complete with 6x Mud Feet to ensure your box can provide enough stability even in the wettest of commercial pegs - and perfect for sloping banks.
The D90 also includes 2 spirit levels located on the side and front of the seat box ensuring you're completely level when fishing.
What are SYSTEM 36 Legs?
System 36 simply means the leg diameter is 36cmm and are proven to be the strongest and sturdiest fishing legs for Daiwa seat boxes. System 36 is a Daiwa only feature.
Like the majority of Daiwa's seat box range, each 36mm leg has a top screw thread which allows adding attachments such as butt rests, rod rests or even leg extensions (if you're venturing out into your swim).
Build Quality & Usability
The Daiwa D90 seat box, made of Aluminium and Steel is a solid well made piece of kid that boasts a sleek "compact looking" design. The detachable footplate is ideal for compact fishing pegs or canal fishing.
Once tightened, the D90's fully 180° handwheels provide more than enough grip to provide ample support, as demonstrated in a video review by Mark from Angling Times (seen below).
For taller anglers, the seat box can be adjusted to a comfortable height and fixed into position without the need to stack additional layers - something that's been missing from many premium seat boxes.
When setting up your seat box for the first time, mark the height position of the seat on the legs (tape / permanent marker / float paint). This will speed up your setup time the next time you're fishing.
The D90 seatbox stack system is fully interchangeable with easy click layers featuring a compression seal to ensure your tackle remains dry, especially on those wet and windy days (we've all been there - whichever direction you're facing the wind is ALWAYS in your face!)
How much tackle storage does the Daiwa 90 offer?
Similar to the Daiwa Tournament 800, the 20mm shallow winder tray features perforations to allow for air flow, which facilitates the drying of your tackle if moisture from rain or cold winter mornings enters the tray.
The Daiwa D90 modular seat box also comes complete with two shallow side drawers with dividers that can be adjusted to store the majority of your smaller fishing knick-knacks (hooks, disgorger and other small pieces of terminal tackle).
The deep removable and modular 14cm (140mm / 5.5") base provides more than enough storage to keep your fishing reels, spare rigs, extra line spools. If there has ever been an excuse to splash out on a "backup" reel, this will be it.

My Review of the Daiwa D90 Seat Box
Although released in 2021, a great indication of whether a seat box really lives up to the expected hype is to check 2nd hand marketplaces such as Gumtree, eBay for old unwanted boxes. The lack of listings for 2nd hand D90 seat boxes is a clear indication that once purchased anglers are sticking to their beloved fishing station.
The design and stability is fantastic, however my only gripe is the weight. I can't help but feel that other boxes with similar features are made from lighter materials making them much easier to carry.
If you're not going to be carrying your D90 far - or plan on transporting your gear with a trolley, I think the price to feature ratio is fantastic and is definitely something for pole anglers to snap up.
